Asilia Roho ya Selous

Roho ya Selous sits in the very heart of Nyerere National Park (formerly The Selous), a stone’s throw from a palm-fringed tributary of Tanzania's Rufiji River.

OVERVIEW

On a small peninsula overlooking Lake Nzerakera, Roho ya Selous is in the heart of the vast Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). The largest reserve in East Africa, it hosts large numbers of wild dogs and big cats, including lions (10% of Africa’s lion population) and leopards. Big game animals include elephants, rhinos, giraffes, buffalos, wildebeest, hippos, zebras, elands and more. Low visitor numbers to the park make for an exclusive safari experience.

Roho Ya Selous is positioned close to a key waterway linking Lake Manze to Lake Nzerakera, making for superb game viewing both during safari drives and from camp itself. The simple yet very stylish camp is designed to balance adventure with loads of comfort. The eight spacious canvas tents, including one family unit, are all ensuite and with hot showers and flushing loos.

The communal spaces include open-sided, canvas-roofed dining or lounge areas, as well as a sparkling swimming pool where you can relax with a book while keeping an eye out for wildlife around the lake. Evenings are spent swapping tales around the campfire before enjoying dinner to the soundtrack of the bush at night.

Make the most of the days with guided game drives, walking safaris or boating safaris. Avid photographers can book a specially modified photographic vehicle with all the gear – from camera rests and beanbags to seats that swivel 360° – to capture superb, eye-level wildlife shots.
