While the human population in Namibia may be low due to large areas of desert, a wide variety of animals, birds, reptiles, flora and fauna are in abundance, with over 200 mammal species, including the largest number of free-roaming cheetahs in the world, elephants, lions, black and white rhinos, giraffe, hippos, zebra, and over 640 bird species, along with unique desert reptiles and out-of-this-world insects. Namibia’s liberating, soulful, rugged terrain is home to a celebration of the diversity of life and undoubtedly a photographer’s dream destination.
The best time to visit Namibia is from July to October when the temperatures are just above 20°C and the chance of rain is low. This is also the optimum time for wildlife viewing, with numerous safaris and special interest tours widely available, as well as more extreme sports such as sandboarding, skydiving and quad biking, becoming increasingly popular.
You will long remember the deafening silence of the desert and the illumination of Namibia’s horizons, which bring a stillness and peace of mind to the weariest traveller.
